Yes! It's a meme! (hides in shame)

I got it from [info]misshavisham. Apparently the instructions are:

* Reply to this message telling me which of these 30 artists you have also seen.
* Take the ones from my list that you have seen, and post them in your own LJ.
* Add more until you have 30.

The List (bold = ganked from Miss H's list)

* The Cure
* Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (about half a dozen times or more)
* Hole
* Nine Inch Nails (for about a song and a half before I got bored and wandered off)
* Atari Teenage Riot
* PJ Harvey
* Violent Femmes
* Jane's Addiction
* Eurythmics
* Sisters of Mercy
* Simple Minds
* The Ramones
* Björk
* Ratcat
* Smashing Pumpkins
* Blondie
* Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros
* Primal Scream
* Severed Heads
* New Order
* Star Industry

..hope 2005 finds you all well.

Demons' Ball on NYE was quite fun: woefully empty at first but it picked up a little as people came over from the Metro, to the point where it felt like a middling night at Tailor's. Not exactly the wildest night I've ever DJed at, but hey, I don't like NYE anyway, and was happy not to be dealing with crowds of revellers.

Here are my set lists )

Last night we went over to [info]v3nu5's place for a bbq, which was just the ticket for New Year's Day evening, winding down with a bunch of wine and a bunch of meat. Yay!

New modem/router has been connected to iiNet for 12 hours now without a dropout. That's 11 hours longer than the old modem had managed at any time since they "upgraded" their infrastructure the weekend before last.

Fingers crossed.

If anyone needs a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router and/or an Alcatel Speedtouch Home ADSL modem (which does work, just not with 1500Kbit ADSL on iiNet's new infrastructure), they're going cheap. :-)

..but I'm calling this election for Bush.

I can't see any state changing hands from Republican to Democrat except for Nevada, and that's not enough for Kerry.

Bush wins, 273 electoral votes to 265. You heard it here first.

Last day at this job is almost over, w00t!!

If anyone has my mobile number in their phone, diary, little black book or whatever, you should probably remove it - 'cos I'll be handing the phone back to my boss in half an hour.

Start at Perception tomorrow...

Go and read this post by [info]nicwhite86.

I was quite proud of my "vote the Coalition out" entry, but then I saw this, shook my head, and just said "pwned!!" This guy covers it all and leaves me in the dust.

I'm sure you've all seen this already, but.. Howard says he can't think of anything "more demoralising and dispiriting" for the people of Iraq than for Australia to pull out our troops.

Would it be as demoralising and dispiriting as HAVING A FUCKING 1000lb BOMB DROPPED ON YOU WHILE YOU WERE WALKING DOWN THE ROAD?!???!?! YOU FUCKING WAR CRIMINAL AND SUPPORTER OF WAR CRIMINALS!!!!

I know there are people on my friends list who are familiar with National Novel Writing Month. Someone referred to it the other day (damned if I can remember who, though) and thus reminded me that it was coming up. I'm half-considering having a stab at it, although I doubt I can dedicate enough time in the space of a month to write 50,000 words. Maybe I can. Anyway, I had an idea, and scrawled some notes in a notebook. If I have enough stuff scrawled in a month's time I guess I'll give it a go.

Anyone else planning to attempt it this year?

Subject:Job offer?
Security:Public

A couple of weeks ago I went in for a job interview as a "Senior Xbox Programmer" (lol!) at a Certain Sydney-based Game Development House, where Peter (my partner in the startup company down in Melbourne in 2002) is now working. He's reasonably happy there, which is high praise from someone like him who swore never to work for The Man ever again, and it seems like a nice place. The company appears to be in the "expansion" phase that games companies always go through when they get a fat contract, and they have a nice office in Rosebery (contradiction in terms I know), just a 10 minute bus ride from my place.

Anyway, just got a call from their HR person saying they want to make me an offer. Money was never discussed at my interview, so she asked me what my salary expectation was. I said I didn't really know, and told her what I was earning now. She seemed disappointed, especially when told that that didn't include superannuation.

So she's going to talk to the MD and see how much they can offer me. I wasn't expecting that they could outbid Kerry Packer for my services, but I'm certainly willing to take a pay cut to do what I want to do, rather than this lame corporate IT bullshit I'm doing now. There are limits, though.. the only problem is, I'm not sure where I should set those limits. ;-)

It took a comment on Slashdot to make me realise the similarities between The Deadly Viper Assassination Society and Fox Force Five.

(although Michael Madsen really isn't that foxy)

That is all.

OK, Hoyts have published their times, and it is indeed still 9:30pm on Friday. Meeting in Newtown for a drink beforehand, since I think everyone who is going will be going from Newtown. :-)

How does Zanzibar at 7:00pm sound?

OK.. having read the comments, what says everyone to the idea of Friday night? I think that fits in with everyone's possible & impossible times, yeah?

Hoyts don't publish their times for the weekend until Thursday, but I would hazard a guess that there will be a session in the vicinity of 9:30, since that's what they have during the week. So that would open the possibility of dinner at the Lansdowne or some such beforehand.

(..featuring "an extra 20 minutes of footage and 4 new songs")

OK, I want to see it, I hear that [info]misshavisham wants to see it, I'm sure that [info]blithespirit and many others will also want to see it (if they haven't already!), so let's see it!

It's on at Broadway, looks like 6:40 and 9:30 each night this week - what does anyone reckon? I'd be up for a 6:40 screening any night this week, I think.. or some time on the weekend if that's better for people.

If this handsome fellow manages to score the first try in this afternoons All Black/Springboks test, I'll be $300 richer. Woot!

I was checking out Betfair, the online gambling den that my boss has just invested in, and decided that a 54-1 bet on Kees Meeuws scoring the first try was too good to pass up. :-)
